Getting In Touch With Your Authentic Self

The real you is a person unlike anyone else. This person is totally unique and wonderful, yet so few of us are in touch with our authentic selves. What seems to happen is that overtime, we stop listening to our own voices and instead make choices based on cultural norms: go to school, get a good job, get married, have children, retire, and so on. But what happens when you’ve made these choices and yet you’re totally unsatisfied?

Know that in many cases, the important (and well meaning) people in your life are the ones who helped dictate your choices and even the course of your life. Many people spend all their years living in the residual of what other people told them to do. However, just because other people have their dreams, doesn’t mean this fits you. You are a unique person and what make you happy might be totally different from your parents, siblings, best friends, coworkers, or neighbors.

So, if you feel a sense of distance from the real you, how can you get in touch with your authentic self?

Living authentically is about making new choices. It’s about listening to what you want, even if it’s different from others. People who are living authentically are not afraid or ashamed of what they want. They are willing to step into new territory without the approval of others. They become those people we admire because they are real. The experience is both a spiritual and personal one. If you want to know more about this concept, give me a shout.
